This atlas contains plots of all public RGS spectra available as of 1st December 2014 that fulfill some mimimum quality requirements.
These criteria were defined from the fit of the spatial profile of the spectrum to a gaussian function, and from the ratio flux/error. For each of the two methods, we defined a "minimum quality" criterion. After this filtering, there were 5045 observations providing RGS data with quality parameters above the threshold.
These spectra have been classified into two quality levels, ("Top " and "Good"). Furthermore, using the information obtained from the fits to the spatial profiles, the sources were classified into "Point-like" and "Extended".
The selected spectra have been grouped into scientific categories , according to the SIMBAD classification of the observed target. Overplotted on each spectrum are the spectral lines that have been found to be relevant for the type of the target, corrected for redshift in the case of extragalactic objects as given in SIMBAD/BiRD.
In addition to the plots, two
tables
are provided, containing all the relevant information and the
different quality criteria for each spectrum.
